Coatbridge born comic book writer turned Hollywood honcho Mark Millar has become the latest Scottish legend to be served the Tennent’s Golden Can award.
Mark is the creator of superhero blockbusters like Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and Captain America: Civil War, and has just sold his publishing company Millarworld to Netflix. His raw Scottish talents have become creative super powers in the Hollywood game and his company Millarworld is now up there with the likes of Marvel and DC Comics.
The second instalment of the Kingsman franchise, created by Millar, premiered last week and has already grossed $100M worldwide, topping the box office charts.
Tennent’s are serving up the famed Golden Cans to the most deserving Scottish icons across the world of film, TV, comedy, music, sport and all other areas of Scottish culture. Tennent’s has been the front runner in some of Scotland’s most memorable cultural events of recent years, and is now looking to celebrate individuals who have raised the bar both at home and beyond as part of its campaign to serve the people of Scotland.
Mark will be in the company of other cultural legends like Irvin Welsh, Biffy Clyro, Franz Ferdinand and Karen Gillan in the Golden Can Hall of Fame.
On receiving the award, Mark Millar said: "As someone who loves booze, being handed the Tennent's Golden Can is a real honour. I’m delighted to be in such grand company as Irvine Welsh and Franz Ferdinand. There’s a lot of great stuff happening in Scotland and I’m just happy to contribute to it in my own small way."
Alan McGarrie, Head of UK Brand Marketing at Tennent’s, said: “We want to raise an extra special pint to Mark for representing Scotland as he takes over Hollywood one blockbuster at a time.
“The Golden Can is all about recognising heroes of Scottish culture, and Mark has become a superhero in his own right with his global success. He’s definitely earned his spot in the Golden Can Hall of Fame, and we’ve got our fingers crossed that we’ll soon see Captain America sipping on Scotland’s favourite lager in Millar’s next project.
“As always, we want to know on our social channels which Scottish hero you think deserves our Golden Can award next.”
Mark will enter the Golden Can Hall of Fame on www.tennents.com/goldencan. A replica of his award will be put on display in the Visitor’s Centre of the Tennent’s Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow where members of the public will be able to see the trophy close up as part of the brewery tour.
